IT’S 2018! It’s so crazy how quickly the time goes…it still feels like 2008 is only like two years ago?! Besides understanding how flippin’ SCARY time can be, the new year gives us an opportunity for the whole ‘new year, new me’ kinda stuff. Personally, I do not think that we should have to wait for a new year to reinvent ourselves, however, I do think it’s a fab time to adopt some new habits, and kinda change your outlook on some things.
2017 was quite a big time for me for ‘realizing stuff’ (yes I’m literally quoting Kylie Jenner what is my life, but it has some truth to it okay?!). Because of this, I wanted to share 8 habits that I’m planning to take up this year, and why you might consider doing them too. These habits aren’t to ‘improve‘ me or you, it’s so we can progress as individuals, and I’m super excited to start acting on them!
1. Sleep more
I for one am TOTALLY guilty of having way too many late nights when really, I am dying for a good night sleep! Although it’s really tempting to watch another Netflix episode, or carrying on scrolling through social media, it’s so important to get a good night sleep! Having a consistent sleeping schedule of around eight hours is really ideal (although I know it’s impossible to ALWAYS stick to it!) and will make your brain feel more awake and alert to take on the upcoming days ahead!
2. Choose healthier options
I’m not going to lie…I am SUCH an unhealthy person! I am a total chocoholic and for sure have a sweet tooth, so somehow you’ll always find me snacking away on my fave bar of Dairy Milk. I know it sucks to say so, but your body will THANK you if you start choosing healthier alternatives. At the moment, I’m borderline OBSESSED with carrot sticks and hummus as well as black grapes, these really fill me up, and make me forget my cravings for chocolate! Often, healthier options are more likely to fill you up too, meaning you won’t be snacking later (and your belly won’t be rumbling as mine loves to in every single one of my classes YAY).
3. Explore more
The world is literally HUGE, and I really want to adventure more into it. I’m STUCK in the same town, an area with the same people. Whether it’s abroad, or even exploring further into London or the rest of the UK, I just want to get OUT there. There are soooo many hidden gems out there, and I want to experience them all, and get some super amazing snaps too!
4. Become more understanding
2017 became a year in which I think a load of us came to the realisation that EVERYONE has a chapter they don’t read out loud and has to deal with their own crap. It’s so easy to become so engrossed in your own troubles, that you forget others have their own too. 2018 I think is a fab time for us all to become more considerate of others, and really reach out to one another and simply TALK about what’s going on.
5. Enrich yourself with knowledge
When you take a step back, the world is frickin’ HUGE and there are millions of facts, projects, idealisms and events to learn and understand- there are no bounds with knowledge. As well as the knowledge you acquire at school or work, there is so much knowledge to gain through reading, listening to other people and so much more. By learning more about the world around you, it’s inevitable that you discover more about you too.
6. Let go of alllll that negativity
2017 was a pretty rubbish year when it came to negativity, and this year you should be letting it alllll go. WHO CARES about those grudges, judgements and self-doubts, cause you shouldn’t be! 2018 is going to be all positive, so let go of those regrets and ‘what ifs’ and just start living a happier path this year!
7. Embark on the journey of self-love
YOU ARE FLIPPING BEAUTIFUL OKAY? I literally know it can be extremely difficult to understand that, and despite knowing we are all unique, we still find ourselves wanting to be something else in order to be more accepted. However, I’m not saying by the end of the year you will love every inch of your being, what I am saying is that we should all start to embrace our differences. Maybe you will begin to embrace something about yourself you never have, or start trying to be more confident in an aspect of you such as without makeup (something I’m trying to do!). A tiny adjustment will start your journey to self-love, and I know you can do it!
8. Embrace every single day
It’s completely okay to have down days, we all have them and I’m 100% no exception. But, try to begin every day as a fresh start and do something good. This can be huge like helping someone in need or smashing that essay you got set, or something tiny like making your bed or simply eating all your meals. Try to accomplish something every day, so when you look back, you know you achieved something- no matter how big it is.
These 8 things are something that I’m really going to try hard to work towards this year. I’ve chosen these as they aren’t unachievable, and aren’t components to shape us into something we are not, it’s to make us more confident and happy- something which I’m allllll about.
Let me know what your resolutions are this year, and whether you think you’ll adopt any of mine!!
ALSO, this blog post is a collab with one of my faveee bloggers EmsiRose who has given her view on the things we should all be doing in this new year too in a blog post. Go over and give her some love on her fab blog post and give her a cheeky follow while you’re there!
