IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMASSSSS
It is safe to say that I am definitely in the Christmas spirit- and I honestly think being at university in London is profoundly contributing to that; the Christmas lights, festive drinks at the nearby coffee shops, Christmas markets and the wacky Christmas jumpers I see across campus- Christmas has hit me…HARD. Like most people, Christmas is totally my fave time of the year, I just feel like everyone is happier- plus we can use the excuse ‘f*** it, it’s Christmas‘ for pretty much anything.
Although the last few weeks of the semester have been pretty crazy with all the essays, studying and just LIVING (as I’m writing this, I still have a huge assignment due before I go home for Christmas LOL), I was determined to get around London to get into the Christmas spirit. Despite having lived in London my whole life with a 30-minute train journey to get right in the centre of it all, I had never visited right around Christmas. I have ALWAYS wanted to just go around and look at the lights as London goes BIG with the decorations, and I was SO here for it. Therefore, just before December after a long ass day of revision at the library with my friend, we decided to do a little walk (actually, it was a frickin’ HUGE walk) around the main streets of London to go and see all the lights!
We spent the evening walking through the popular locations of London; Carnaby Street, Oxford Street, SoHo, Covent Garden and Tottenham Court Road- half of which I hadn’t actually visited before which is crazy. Even though it wasn’t even December yet, the streets were PACKED beyond belief- people bustling everywhere in the post-black Friday sales for Christmas presents, dashing in the road because there was no room on the pavement and Christmas music blaring from the shops; it was INSANE. Of course, OBVIOUSLY, I had to snap a load of photos as I went around (which involved getting in lots of peoples way but it was worth it hahaha) and I’m so pleased with them!
Being in London just feels SO FRICKIN FESTIVE and I was so pleased I got a chance to see it fully decked out between my studying. As I’m not at home at the moment, I was worried that I wouldn’t feel in the festive spirit as I’m not with my family or was able to help put all the Christmas trees up- though I had regular updates as to how all eight Christmas trees were getting on (yes, my family loves Christmas that much LOL). However, with the Christmas lights and FREEZING weather, it is safe to say I am still managing to get excited! It’s so great seeing the university getting their Christmas on though too- flats on campus seem to be having a little bit of competition regarding decorations, I’ve seen full six-foot Christmas trees, LED lights, paper chains and snowflakes in kitchens as I walk to class!!
As much as I do love London, I honestly am really excited to go home for Christmas (and yes, I am planning on playing ‘Driving Home For Christmas’ in the car on the way home haha!!). Although the semester ended on the 14th, I’m not leaving until the 18th as I want to complete my assignments for this term so I can actually RELAXXX for the next few weeks. Over the next few days, my flatmates are all going home whether that’s here in England, HongKong or America and it is crazy how much I will miss them- but I think for sure we all need to see our families and just have a break from the craziness of university.
It feels almost surreal seeing people leaving with their suitcases to go home- I cannot believe how quickly the past twelve weeks have gone, it feels like yesterday I was moving into my university halls. However, I’m planning on coming back just before New Year’s Eve because a) I will miss my flatmates too much to spend the whole three weeks away and b) I have university assignments due before the semester starts in January, so I need to get working! So, I will only be spending just under two weeks at home, but I think that is the perfect amount of time to catch up with all my old school friends and just spend time with my family- because that’s what Christmas is all about.
SO, I hope this post has made you feel even more in the Christmas spirit (if that’s even possible LOL), I really wanted to combine two of my fave things; Christmas and photography as well as just have a lil’ chat over here! If you ever get the chance to visit London at Christmas, I SO recommend it cause if the BEAUTIFUL lights and atmosphere doesn’t get you in the spirit- I don’t know what will!
What are you all looking forward to this Christmas- how festive are you feelin’?!
