I’ve been a blogger for way over two years now, I have got to say that I love it. Never did I think that logging onto ‘wordpress.com’ would enable me to make such amazing friends, share things I love and actually make a positive impact on people’s days. Although blogging is oh-so-amazing, there are for sure a collection of misconceptions that people have of the ‘blogosphere’, as well as quite a few topics that nobody ever talks about. BUT, I thought I would address some aspects of blogging that I think lots of people don’t really think about, so I took to Twitter to see what you all wanted to know- so here you go!
COLLABORATING N MONEY BUSINESS
It is absolutely no secret that blogging CAN lead to opportunities to review products/experiences and even make a lil’ (or a lot) of money while doing so! There has been SO MUCH negativity surrounding that kind of thing, but personally, I see nothing wrong with it! Bloggers offer a service, and brands WANT to work with bloggers- so what’s wrong with that?! As some of you have seen on my blog, I am super lucky to have worked with a couple of brands on reviewing their products and sharing them with you all. It’s so fun to test things out, and I know that if I love something, some of you will too! I would NEVER lie about loving a product, cause I’m allll about being real here on my blog. I have never done a paid collaboration- and that’s okay! It’s not that I’m against them, I just have never had the opportunity to do so. If I offered one and it was perfect for me, would I take it? I SURE WOULD-who wouldn’t?! For me, blogging is not about getting paid or working with companies, that’s an added bonus. It’s about connecting with people and sharing things you love.
COMPETING WITH OTHER BLOGGERS
Anyone would be lying if they said they didn’t compare themselves to other bloggers, we do it in real life with other people, so it’s not abnormal AT ALL to do it online. I absolutely LOVE my blogging friends, and when they get opportunities with brands or are ON IT with their blogging content, I am SO proud of them!! But yes, the reality is that sometimes it does feel like a big competition which sometimes quite frankly, leaves you feeling CRAP about your own blog when you’re slacking a lil’. However, sometimes I like to take a step back from blogging and just look at the whole picture– I blog because I love it, I enjoy sharing parts of my life and I’m going at my own pace. Blogging isn’t about the numbers, collaborations or likes, it’s about being happy with yourself and the content you post.
BALANCING BLOGGING WITH LIFE AND EDUCATION
Life is flipping hard enough as it is with school, work, family, friends, mental health and a million more things, so every blogger knows that it’s a real task to balance it all. To tell you the truth, most bloggers DO NOT have 20 posts already drafted with content, pictures and links already established, or have planned their insta feed for the next four weeks- most of us are literally going with the flow, for example, I am writing this post an hour before it’s going live LOL. I sometimes do take off a few weeks of blogging because it becomes too much, and bloggers shouldn’t feel guilty for doing so. Blogging is so underrated in how much effort goes into it; writing, taking photos, thinking of ideas, managing social media, working with brands, collabing and promoting their work. ALWAYS put your health and life before blogging, the blog will always be there for bloggers to come back to- your life right now won’t.
THE BEST THINGS ABOUT BLOGGING
Despite being a bit of a negative nancy on this post, I wanted to finish with the reality that blogging is one of the best decisions I made in my life. My confidence has grown so much in myself and my capabilities, knowing that I have made a DIFFERENCE. Whether it’s the fact that I encouraged someone to try a new lipstick, helped someone with school advice or just cheered someone up for the few minutes they read my post, it’s one of the best things ever. It’s unexplainably brilliant to meet like-minded people on here, and how although the blogging world can sometimes be a lil’ negative, when bloggers unite and stick together, encouraging one another to be the best they can be, I cannot think of anything better to call myself a part of.
Those are just SOME of the realities of being a blogger. Blogging isn’t all about perfect flat lays, fairy lights and OOTDs in front of cute doors, it’s about acknowledging that some of use have no flipping clue what we are doing as we are speed writing a post at 3am or looking slightly ridiculous attempting to take blog photos of cute products while in our mixed-matched pyjamas.
This is a collab with one of my longest blogging friends Najdia who has been a blogger so ages like me, so has shared her realities of being a blogger. She is ever so lovely and her blog is honestly AMAZING, so go have a read!
